What do we mean by female pleasure?

We don’t believe it’s necessary to nail down exactly what is meant by the word ‘pleasure’ as plenty of in-depth studies and discussions on the subject already exist.

Whilst researching this project, we have come across a huge amount of debate as to what pleasure actually is. Socrates, Freud, Helene Cixous and many more great thinkers have written extensively on the subject, a particular favourite of philosophers and psychologists. Perhaps predictably, no one is in agreement.

Pleasure too is often frowned upon by entire societies and of course is the villain of the Bible, symbolised in that notoriously delicious, juicy apple that Eve could not resist the pleasure of.

It is the view of the editors of Pleasure Unplugged that the sensation or feeling of pleasure is unique to each individual and experiences that trigger pleasure are as myriad as stars in the sky. Some may experience pleasure in their bodies, some in their minds. Others, who have deep spiritual beliefs experience pleasure in what they would define as their souls. Or any combination of the above.  Therefore by pleasure, we mean anything that you personally experience as pleasurable in any way, for any reason.

When we refer to the ‘feminine,’ we mean those qualities commonly associated with women. But that is not to say only women have them. Like yin and yang, feminine and masculine qualities are possessed by both women and men in varying degrees.

We would also prefer not to enter the debate as to what exactly constitutes a ‘female’ as opposed to a ‘woman.’ These terms are often discussed in academic circles in terms of whether they are defined by essential, psychological or biological parameters. For the purposes of this project, we invite any person who experiences themselves as either female or a woman of any sexuality to share the true story of their pleasure. The lesbian, bisexual, transgender and gender fluid communities are positively encouraged to respond to the questionnaire.
